Naila Chowdhury is a Change Maker, who leads with compassion. She is Director, Social Impact and Innovation at University of California, San Diego. She has 21 years of professional, diversified, global management skills on economic empowerment of minorities and underserved community, mainly girls and women. Her vision is to leave a world where community is a common and enduring enterprise , where everyone can come together and grow together amid differences to solve the complex challenges that affect us all. Believes in co-creating a platform for dignity, compassion with sustainability for all.
Her experience at UNICEF, Bangladesh and the Marie Stopes Clinic (UK) sparked her life-long interest in women’s rights, economic empowerment and human rights. She is firmly committed and focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals & Women Empowerment Principles.
She has been a prominent professional woman internationally in the field of humanitarian causes, specially with refugees & Human Trafficked survivors, Social impact and Impact investment. She has a Master’s and MBA and has worked in several countries in South east Asia and Europe with Telenor, the state-owned Norwegian Telecom giant. She oversaw the eponymous women’s empowerment project in GrameenPhone economically empowering the minority women with Dr. Yunus who won a Nobel Peace Prize. She sits on several Boards in USA and UN bodies, i.e., WEP Leadership Team Member, UN Global Compact & UN Women in Advisory capacity focusing on empowerment of the disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls. She is one of the founding Women of Fashion4Development. She actively supports Annual First Ladies Luncheon in New York during UN General Assembly. She has worked in ten countries before settling in USA. She is also Community Advisory Board Member of Union Tribune, San Diego.
Naila has lead and empowered 8 million women from minority community in third world countries through social empowerment projects giving them a life with dignity and sustainability. She leads community and campus-wide initiative to provide a platform for inclusive, equal and diverse teams to work together on societal issues. Aiming to identify and collaborate with partners, implement sustainable solutions to make our world a better place now and for future generations. The mission is to drive the growth of an inclusive society through our global alliances and by harnessing the power of collaboration.
